The estimated peanut production would be the second most important of the last 9 years, with 1.09 million MT. This was highlighted by the report issued by the Cereals Board of Cordoba in which it was estimated a production of 1.09 million tons. It was also highlighted that the digging and threshing advances throughout the province with percentages of 74% and 11%, respectively. In terms of rainfall, in March and April, the millimeters gathered for 2017 double those of last year and those of the historical average in the south of the province. While in May so far, in 10 of 21 departments analyzed, the rains exceed the entire month of the previous cycle and the historical average.
The in shell peanut production would be located at 1.09 million tons, being the second most important season of the last 9 years, surpassed only by 15 thousand tons in the 2014/15 season.
The increase of 27% is mainly due to the increase in yield (12%) and the decrease in the hectares requested (-63%).
The departments with more area lost by flooding are as follows: General Roca (11,100 ha) and Pte. Roque Sáenz Peña (3,500 ha).

If we compare the progress of peanut digging and harvesting in relation to a season where the harvest was NOT affected by precipitation, as for example May 2015, we can observe that the current season is 22 and 12 points below. This is mainly due to the delay in the departments General Roca and Pte. Roque Sáenz Peña, which account for 34% of the peanut surface in Córdoba.
The gather rainfall of each department in the cycle October 2016 – April 2017 exceeds the historical average (2007-2017) of the same by approximately 15% more (3). (3) See graph below:

Since the beginning of the harvest of all summer cultivars, the rains affected the cultivars in different ways. In the departments of the south of the provinces, the precipitations doubled last year’s registrations and the historical average, intensifying the flooding problems that the area already had and hampering the threshing tasks; this is due to roads´ problems, which make it impossible to access to the fields or to lack of soil in the same.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Nation, through its monthly report informed that on May 24 the digging and threshing tasks are developed as the weather make it possible, with 27% threshed as at 05/18. In general, good yields are being obtained, no serious health problems are reported, but gathering in several areas is in its beginning. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Nation plans to increase the production by 16% over the 2015/16 cycle.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Nation: on May 18, which issued the first PROGRESS OF THE PEANUT HARVEST, showed 15,000 Hectares LOST; On May 24, it shows 21,000 Hectares LOST at country level; 1,800 Hectares LOST in SALTA and 17,900 in CORDOBA.
The Argentine peanut crop has 20 thousand hectares in critical condition. The affected area is located at the south of the National Route 7 and includes Córdoba, north of La Pampa and the west of Buenos Aires. The level of aquifers affects the transportation of the farmer’s stock peanuts. The current peanut season offers contrasts. The good potential yields that the cultivar makes out in a good part of the planted surface are countered by the problems of flooding that some areas suffer from and that put the harvest at risk.
