Record turnover for BENIHORT CÍTRICOS with € 20,000,000

A positive outcome that the Benihort company has experienced with its citrus season 2014-15, which has been characterised by a record sales turnover, which totalled €20,000,000 and 52,000,000 kilos of produce sold. As a result of these figures, the profitability of the partners of the citrus fruit business has increased, among those that will share out around €1,500,000 more compared with the citrus season last year. The results for 2014-2015 in the area of citrus fruit for the cooperative from Benicarló also highlights the volume sold, which amounted to 52,000,000 kilos, 43,000,000 kilos of which correspond with the production of partners and the remaining 9,000,000 kilos with third party purchases.

Despite this, the season also experienced a negative side as a result of the hailstorm in August and with the constant wind that was experienced throughout the whole harvesting period, bad weather that has meant that the sales figures for this period were affected by a poor quality of the fruit.

According to the Managing Director, Guillermo Edo, “all of these figures effects the consolidation of the cooperative from Benicarló as a leader in the sector and as a result of having achieved a better positioning on the market, due to the volume and offer throughout the citrus season”. The cooperative from Benicarló sells practically all of the varieties of oranges and clementines and offers a comprehensive service from October to July.

In the same way, the work in the field of citrus fruit has been focused on continuing to be committed to the consolidation of clients and markets, in terms of export, meaning that diverse investments have been made in machinery for the next season that “will help us to expand the production and increase the volume between 50,000 and 60,000 kilos daily”, as has been explained by the Department Manager for Citrus Fruit, Luís Montañés.

Benihort Cítricos offers employment to 275 people during the citrus season, meaning that the number of employees working at the cooperative at that time exceeds 450 people.
