Cambridge technology is integral to a piece of agricultural innovation that points the way to better crop production – especially when the Internet of Things becomes a reality around our farms and fields. Delta-T Devices in Burwell has joined forces with Netafim UK to provide a transformational precision irrigation package, including cloud data management, for UK soft fruit growers.
The package will be supplied by Netafim, the market leading provider of irrigation solutions in the country, through its main dealer network. It can automatically control irrigation and monitor growing conditions. It will include Delta-T’s SM150T soil moisture and temperature sensor alongside its advanced GP2 data logger and controller.
Data can be remotely monitored and shared on mobile or desktop devices via Delta T’s free online DeltaLINK-Cloud service.
Delta-T’s Dr John Newstead said: “This partnership provides a great opportunity for two established companies with complementary skill-sets to deliver a valuable product to the commercial grower sector.
“The benefits of precision irrigation should not be underestimated – it can help growers produce higher quality produce with improved taste and shelf life, as well as reducing water and fertiliser use and lessening salt build-up.
“Netafim and Delta-T make a great team, providing expert installation and support to growers who want to benefit from cutting edge technology.”
Netafim’s “Julian Gruzelier added: “Delta-T’s extremely high level of technical expertise in soil moisture sensing and data logging means our collaboration with them is very much in line with the fundamental Netafim ethos. We look forward to working with them to advance irrigation management across Britain.”
Established in 1971 and operating globally from a local base, Delta-T Devices specialises in instruments for environmental science, in particular: agronomy, plant physiology, eco-physiology, data logging, meteorology, soil moisture, solar energy studies and environmental monitoring.
Its instruments measure and record fundamental variables needed by scientists and engineers. The company has an international network of representatives who can provide local sales and service in most countries. Export sales account for more than 75 per cent of Delta-T Devices’s business.
