Agri Australis holds hazelnut workshop

Representatives from Australia’s largest hazelnut operation, Agri Australis, will be among the speakers at a one day hazelnut workshop at Myrtleford on Saturday, June 3.

Hazelnuts – the opportunities is a workshop and field day being held to introduce potential growers into the world of the Australian Hazelnut Industry.

The workshop has been organised and sponsored by the Hazelnut Growers of Australia, TAFCO and the North East Catchment Management Authority.

It will answer questions about growing hazelnuts on your farm, nut marketing and the value-adding potential of this valuable and highly nutritious nut.

The day will also be an opportunity for existing growers to expand their business planning by exploring value adding and processing.

Agri Australis, part of the giant Ferrero Italian chocolate manufacturer, has 475,000 trees planted across 950 hectares at Narrandera and plan to plant more.

Their first plantings were six year ago and the company expects its first commercial harvest to begin after 2018 with full production by 2022.

Other speakers include leading nursery propagators, North East growers and industry representatives.

The day will also include a trade-show and a farm walk hosted by local growers.

This project is supported through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme and Farm Smart Project.

The workshop will be held at Myrtleford’s Club Savoy from 9am-45pm. For information contact TAFCO Rural Supplies on (03) 5752 1800 or email kerry@tafco.com.au
